What is a procurador?

The procurador is the legal representative of the client before the Spanish Courts.

The procurador is the link between the lawyer and the Court. It is mandatory to hire one in order to litigate in the Spanish Courts. He/She will be in charge of the communications with the Court. The procurardor will present the writs on behalf of the lawyer and he/she will also receive all the court notices, orders, requirements or any other type of Court communication. They have a degree in Law and they make sure that the legal proceeding is correctly done and that it complies with the law. He is also the client’s legal representative at Court and will protect the client’s rights.

Their fees are officially established and they are registered in the Procuradores Association (Colegio de Procuradores) of the city where they work.
